The local area is blessed with some fine game fishing ranging from wild brownies in remote locations to stocked rainbows on popular waters. There is also salmon and sea trout fishing in some of England's finest rivers.
Cow Green Reservoir
Cow Green Reservoir is reputed to be England's best wild Brown Trout fishery. The fish are numerous, free rising and hard fighting. The average size may not be large but the spectacular surroundings, with Cross Fell dominating the skyline, more than compensate and the bank is never crowded.
Derwent Reservoir
Easily accessible and well stocked with Rainbow, Blue and Brown Trout, Derwent reservoir is one of the most popular game fisheries in the country with over 12000 visits last year.
There is nearly six miles of bank with the North Shore reserved for fly fishing, multi bait fishing being permitted on the South Shore.

Waskerley Reservoir
This is a 350 hectares lake in heather moorlands in the Derwent Valley, with beautiful views of the North Pennines AONB.
The coloured water reservoir is around 70 Acres and over 20 feet deep. It is leased to a local angling cub and day tickets are usually available from the hut. It is stocked mostly with Brown Trout.
